HR - Code of Conduct

I am curious as to whether or not you're requiring a signed Code of Conduct for employment, and if any of your organizations have taken a Zero tolerance stance if it's violated?

At a previous facility where I worked, we require everyone to sign a cod of conduct pledge. If there were any infractions, they were investiagated thoroughly and usually resulted in a final written warning or termination depending on the infraction.

We do have them sign a code of conduct document after viewing an hour long video explaining the code of conduct. Additionally, we have all employees attend one hour of ethics training every year where they sign the code of conduct again.

In our facilities, we do require that employees' sign a code of conduct at the time of their initial employment. Additionally, many healthcare professionals have their own professional code of ethics to adhere to. As far as I know, we do not take a zero tolerance stance if it's violated, rather we take a disciplinary approach to resolve the situation, if needed. But then again, there are employees who have received progressive disciplinary action, and have been terminated because they could not correct the situation. I still don't believe that that is zero tolerance.

Code of Conduct is a web based course at my facility and completion is required prior to 90 day probationary review. Suspension or termination will occur if the session is not complete.

In my Health System we have a Code of Conduct that all employees and vendors must sign. The Code of Conduct is intermeshed with our Corporate Compliance area.

At our company, all employees and consultants are required to sign a conduct of conduct within 90 days of employment. In terms of violation, it depends on the issue and severity. In some cases, it is an automatic termination, in others, it may be a verbal or written warning.

At our Hospital, we go through monthly "Standards of Compassionate Care" training sessions that act as a refresher to the "standards" or codes of conduct that the employees signed during their initial orientation to the facility. This session acts as both a reminder of the "standards" that they signed, but also reinvigorates many of the employees as positive customer service stories about their fellow colleagues are shared as examples.

I have seen where department managers will also fill out conflict of interest statements as part of the code of conduct for compliance purposes. This arose as an effort to document Sarbanes-Ox. compliance down to the operational level.
