Broadbanding

Related to Broadbanding pay grades, has anyone ran into problems with this strategy?  I'm curious to know if it is more or less effective when applied to differerent organizational settings.  For example would Broadbanding be used in a new or growth oriented business versus an established one?

I have become an increasing advocate of Broadbanding....reasons: reduce mgmt/pay levels, promote multi-tasking w/n work group, make ksa's more universal, allow more staffing flexibility, overall improvement of workforce ksa'a
Suited for new and estab business, but I would think essential in new/growth businesses
