Chief Medical Information Officers or Chief Informatics Officers ensure information, evidence, and effectiveness in medicine.  The MD wishing to take on this role is highly recommended to have the following: 

a.  Leadership skills

b.  communication skills

c.  IT systems experience and/or informatics education

e.  membership in a group such as the HIMSS (Health Information Management & Systems Society)

f.  MBA

g.  all of the above

h.  none of the above

A person who possess both clinical and techincal knowledge is definietley a resource to any organization. The individual would have a true working knowledge of what the end users would need to effectively do their job.
