Use of flexible budget can be useful to obtain additional information for line items.

Flexible budgeting can be useful in the following variations
a) (patient) volume
b) price/rate variance (spending more/less for a resource)
c) Quantiy/Use (of a line item/resource per work load; ie- supplies used per patient day)
