In reading the material in the Finance section of the Outline and in the text a number of formulas appear to determine calculations for forecasting. Is the expectation that these formulas be memorized or will they be provided and only the calculations performed on the exam? Thanks.

As I read about how expensive it is to recruit new employees I remember several occasions where staff left their position because they wanted different hours/more pay/more help/etc.... Administration refused to see the need at the time but in almost every occasion, the new recruit got everything the old employee wanted but couldn't get. If management could've seen the future, they could've saved a lot of money and trouble. Of course, I understand you can't constantly give into demands and sometimes it is best for the person to leave to get a better employee in the position. Has anyone else seen this happen? I work for a private, not-for-profit organization and board membership is voluntary. I'm curious if other members who work for not-for-profit organizations are paying for board attendance, and if so how are you determining the compensation? Thanks. John Laguna Wednesday December 3, 2008

In the presentation on Monday, board composition was discussed. Medical staff elect representatives. What was confusing for me is that some medical staff represenatives have votes and others do not. Can you explain a situation where they would NOT have votes, if they are elected onto the board?
